159510 Sgt. Henry John Bonham was born on October 14th, 1887 in London, England, to Henry and Elizabeth Bonham, and was husband to Jane Catherine Cooper of Deptford, London, England.


A stone mason by trade, "John" was a member of the Militia (44th Regiment). Attesting into the 81st Battalion, CEF, on August 13th, 1915, in Welland, Ontario, John was transferred to the 4th CMR on June 7th, 1916, as reinforcements to the regiment which was so badly decimated in the June 2nd "Battle for Mount Sorrel".


Sgt. Bonham was killed in action on April 11th, 1917, at the "Battle of Vimy Ridge" and is buried in Thelus Military Cemetery, located at the foot of the ridge, near the village of Thelus, France. He was 30 years of age.
