835338 Pte. Ernest Percival Lewis was born on August 20th, 1898, in Mountain Grove, Ontario.
The son of George and Margaret Lewis, of Mountain Grove, Ontario, Ernest was a farmer by trade when he attested into the 146th (Frontenac) Battalion, on January 28th, 1916, in Sharbot Lake, Ontario.
His older brother, Pte. Austin Lewis attested into the same regiment 11 days earlier.
The 146th BN supplied 276 men to the 4th CMR through the course of 1916, and subsequently Percival found himself in the field with the 4th CMR on November 3rd of that year.
Private Ernest Percival Lewis died on April 9th, 1917, in the 4th CMR's opening action in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Just 18 years of age, Ernest was laid to rest in Thelus Military Cemetery, located near the village of Thelus, France.
Sadly older brother, Austin, also lost his life, near Mericourt, on June 4th, 1917.
