Born in Narborough, Norfolk, England, in June 1893, George signed on in March 1915, in Ottawa.

A farmer by trade, George originally attested into the 8th CMR on March 29th, 1915, but found himself transferred to the 4th CMR, which was absorbed the 8th CMR in Janaury 1916.

At the time of George's loss, on October 1st, 1916, the 4th CMR was involved in costly actions attacking Regina Trench, in which some 70 of its men were lost on that one day alone.
