Born in Warrington, England, in September 1886, William was a resident of Chicago, Illinois, when he signed on in April 1916.
A locomotive fireman by trade, William attested into the 99th (Essex) Battalion in Windsor, Ontario, on April 29th, 1916.
One of 77 men of the 99th Battalion transferred to the 4th CMR in August and September 1916, William was lost on April 16th, 1917, at a time when the 4th CMR had both heavy losses and significant victory at Vimy Ridge.
Pte. William Burrows is one of two men of the 4th CMR known to lie at rest in the Dover (St. James) Cemetery, Kent, England.
