835315 Pte. Edward William Cole was born on January 4th, 1896, in Kingston, Ontario.


Listing his next of kin as T. Smeaton of 137 William Street in Kingston, Ontario, a friend, Edward was a farmer by trade, living at Dufferin in Frontenac County at the time of enlistment.


Attesting into the 146th (Frontenac) Battalion on January 15th, 1916, in Kingston, Ontario, Edward was one of 276 men of the 146th transferred to the 4th CMR in November and December 1916.


With the 4th CMR in the vicinity of La Folie Wood, Edward was killed in action on April 11th, 1917, in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.


Edward William Cole is buried in Thelus Military Cemetery, located at the foot of the ridge, just outside of Thelus, France. He was 21 years of age.
