Born in Belleville, Ontario, in February 1884, and still living there when he signed on, Thomas originally attested into the 155th (Quinte) Battalion, on January 18th, 1916.


A coal bearer by trade, and with previous military experienced noted in the 15th Regiment, Thomas found himself, along with 94 other men of the 155th transferred to the 4th CMR in late November, 1916.


At the time of Thomas's loss, on August 29th, 1918, 4th CMR had, on August 24th, 1918, just returned to the front line, at Feuchy, 5km to the west of Arras, when in the early morning 'D' company was subject to gas and shrapnel rounds that were to cause 116 casualties. Thomas was badly affected by gas and although attended to and evacuated to No.7 Casualty Clearing Station, he subsequently died 5 days later, on the 29th.


Pte. Thomas Keegan is one of 20 men of the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles who are known to lie at rest in Ligny-St.Flochel British Cemetery, Averdoingt, France.
