109509 Pte. Douglas Murray (right) in a postcard photo taken in March 1917.
Standing alongside him is Pte. Jack "John" Aicken.
Both men survived the war.
Douglas was born in Gloucester, England, in July 1892.
A drug clerk at the time of attestation, and having had previous military experience with the 9th Mississuaga Horse militia, Douglas signed on with the 4th CMR in Toronto, as part of the original intake, in late November 1914.
Douglas served without noticeable incident for the duration of the war and being one of the very few "originals" to have survived with the regiment, as was Jack Aicken, Douglas was struck off strength on March 20th, 1919.
