113488 Pte. Bert Nelson Post
Shorncliffe Military Cemetery
Kent
England
Born in September 1897, Bert originally attested into the 8th Canadian Mounted Rifles, on August 19th, 1915.
With the 8th CMR absorbed into the 4th CMR, under the newly formed 8th Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division, Bert found himself with the 4th CMR on January 29th, 1916.
At the time of his loss, on September 9th, 1917, the 4th CMR were engaged at Vimy, but given that Bert died in the UK, he was obviously injured some time before this date. It is mostly likely that he was one of the 120 casualties of heavy gas shelling on the reserve line and vicinity near La Chaudiere on September 4th, 1917.
Pte. Bert Post is one of three men of the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles who are known to lie at rest in Shorncliffe Military Cemetery, Kent, England.
