113613 Pte. Frederick David Walker

Sanctuary Wood Cemetery

Ieper

Belgium

This headstone represents one of those instances where an error has crept into the soldier's initials.

Formal notification of the error, collaborated by Frederick Walker's attestation papers, has been sent to the CWGC for their onward action.

Born in Napanee, Ontario, in October 1897, Frederick was a student at the time he signed on, in Barriefield, in July 1915.

With previous military experience gained in the Napanee Cadet Corps, Frederick originally attested into the 8th CMR, which was absorbed by the 4th CMR in January 1916.

Frederick joined the 4th CMR in the field on January 29th, 1916, but sadly lost his life on the opening morning of the "Battle of Mount Sorrel", June 2nd, 1916.

Pte. Frederick Walker is one of four men of the 4th CMR known to lie at rest in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery near Hill 62, Ieper, Belgium.
