Born in St. Catherines, Ontario, in February 1877, Alfred signed on in November 1914, in Toronto.
A fireman by trade, with 7 years previous military experience in the 2nd Dragoons, Alfred attested on November 27th, 1914, as part of the 4th CMR's forming intake.
At the time of his loss, on April 21st, 1916, the 4th CMR was holding the line near Maple Copse. Alfred may have been wounded by sniper fire or as a result of the occasional shelling in the days immediately prior to the 21st.
Pte. Alfred Wiley is one of 12 men of the 4th CMR known to lie at rest in Maple Copse Cemetery, near Sanctuary Wood, Ieper.
